I’ve mentioned before that we are undertaking a big backyard project in 2021. One of the main aspects of this project will be putting in a pool & pool house. The plan is to start digging this week (!) so I thought it was time to share our visions for the whole space.
One of the favorite things about our home, when we bought it, was the location. We love the neighborhood and our kids can walk to school. It sits on a larger corner lot that had a ton of potential but most of it was covered in a forested area. I had dreams of turning this space into something special and my even longer-term view (which you can read about here) is to create a home where our family and friends feel loved and welcome.
This is what it looks like today:
And here is what it looked like when we moved in:
We reclaimed a lot of the grassy area when we first moved in so M&M would have a spot to play. We knew there was still a lot more to be done that we put it on the back burner until the time was right. Enter quarantine lockdown – which for so many reasons – convinced us to get moving on making our backyard dreams a reality. Our first step was to get in touch with a landscape designer to bring our plan to life. We worked with Marcia Fryer Landscape Design. She is wonderful and very talented. I would highly recommend her to anyone local!
We had to start by clearing out more trees in the back of our property to reclaim space for everything we have in mind (pool, pool house, garden, and a play area). This process was the most painful part – I hate cutting down trees. Next, some major re-grading work needed to be done, which is what you see in the photo above with the trucks and rocks. Once they completed that a few weeks ago, the digging can now begin.
The pool will be placed right off of the back porch with a small pool house/garden shed going right behind it. Here is the mood board that I sent to our contractor + a few more details:
I will share how the construction process unfolds over the next few weeks. And hopefully, I can give you a rundown of the pool house in another post. Stay tuned!
PS: Here are a few other design-related posts from previous renovation projects.
